THE ISSUESEconomic Spending Power of the Elderly/YouthBeverly's Statement: Do you give your kids money to spend? Do ever think about their spending power in the economy? Collectively they are force to be reckoned with. They probably don't view themselves an economic base in the City of Oakland. I think young people would work to earn income were jobs available to them in the City of Oakland. How do we make resident businesses and/or incoming businesses aware of this untapped economy in some instances? More on Economic Spending Power of the Elderly/Youth: Elected officials, City and County government should be kept aware of the spending power of the young and old. We should kept the permits departments abreast of this economic power and ask them to remember these groups when they are planning to build those entities that would benefit from this income stream. They are credible consumers. You can count on their dollars! I think that we should employee the youth of the City. Provide jobs, internships with and/or stipends to attract them. I also feel that the elderly are under utilized in the business sector of Oakland. These two groups are very visible in our community they generate business in the clothing, make-up, jewelry, medical and the fast food industry and they are credible consumers, meaning you can count on their dollars!
