THE ISSUES

Immigration

Beverly's Statement:

As a long time resident of the Fruitvale District I have an overview of how people live and what their families mean to them.

Immigrants are people who came here with a dream of citizenship and betterment of their family economic status. My concern is that it takes to long for citizenship to occur for those persons that either can't afford the fee; have to work long hours or don't speak the language.

Even though there are organizations such as the Unity Council or Spanish Citizen's Foundation there is still a need for assistance to navigate becoming a citizen.

More on Immigration:

There is an enhanced need to assist immigrants to gain citizenship, this is very apparent in District 5. I met immigrants that want to vote, to be a part of their new homeland and feel that they belong. I heard from some of them that citizenship is a dream. If they are going to be allowed to live here they should have a fast track to citizenship. This situation enhances crime and victims of crime.
