THE ISSUESMedical BenefitsBeverly's Statement: Many people are hard pressed for medical benefits. Those persons that are without benefits are usually seen in the emergency department of hospitals. There is a company that for $1,000 per year will pay for the first 48 hours of emergency room care. This is very important because once a person is admitted to the house or routed to a clinic in the hospital there is medical coverage available on a sliding scale. More on Medical Benefits: Murders take a toll our trauma center(s). The public is left to pay these bills when the medical team does everything in their knowledge base to save a gunshot victim. The cost of these medical services is left behind. Let's do our part from a social standpoint to element the need for these kind of medical costs in our city. I see crime statistics in Oakland that do not show murder statistics. I believe that a committee of community organizations such as businesses, labor, the Mayor, City Council and College/University management could put together a short term medical plan built around stipends for internships for 18/25 year olds that are in school half-time. Medical coverage for youth was one of the questions on the East Bay Young Democrats Questionnaire. We can discuss this issue in our work environments.
